The discontinuity between the upper and lower parts of structural walls normally observed in the Piloti building structures caused by the architectural characteristics of building planes. Discontinuity characteristic can be affected to brittle damage on transfer slabs caused by concentrated stress triggered by the combination of shear force and bending moment acting at the slab-wall joints. According to numerous previous research on developed slab shear reinforcements, it was found that most of their purposes were not only reinforcing slabs thicker than 250mm at the column-slab joint, but also applying the form of restrained upper and lower flexural re-bars. However, such details were difficult to applicate in Piloti buildings which have thinner slab of 150mm ~ 200mm thickness. Therefore, in this study, newly shear reinforcement details were developed that can be applied to thin slabs for the purpose of increasing construction efficiency and are not affected by existing flexural re-bars.In this study, the vulnerability of the vertical members at Piloti stories was analyzed through the nonlinear static analysis, and the safety under the seismic action was verified after redesign of the vertical members by applying a special earthquake load. Furthermore, through finite element analysis, the fragility of the slab due to the discontinuity between the upper and lower parts of structural walls was derived. On the basis of this, experimental investigations on slab-wall joint specimens with newly developed shear reinforcement details were planned. Finally, the shear performance of the newly-developed shear reinforcement detail used for thin flat slabs which have discontinuous of structural walls was experimentally investigated. The test results indicated that the specimens with developed shear reinforcement detail improved the shear strength and displacement capacity compared to the control specimen without reinforcement detail. Therefore, the resistance to additional shear forces due to the wall discontinuity could be improved, by using the proposed shear reinforcement details. In addition, through comprehensive analysis according to the existing analytical shear strength model, it was found that the strength evaluation using current design codes was conservative compared with the test results. Meanwhile, the strength evaluation using Choi et al. method revealed comparably high accuracy.
