This study aims to analyze patterns and characteristics of family values of the younger generation in China, using the family module data extracted from the 2017 Chinese General Social Survey. This study conducts a multi-faceted analysis on changes in Chinese families and family values by taking into account Chinese socio-historical backgrounds including the Cultural Revolution, the Chinese economic reform since 1979, and socio-demographic factors such as gender, region, and age. As a result of factor analysis based on 24 questions in the survey, 17 questions suitable for the assumptions were selected, four factors can be extracted as family values: filial piety, the view of marriage, gender role, and patrilineality. Cluster analysis in the study produces four patterns: 1) all four factors are not traditional values; 2) all four factors are traditional values; 3)filial piety is not traditional values while views of marriage, gender roles and paternalism are traditional values; 4) filial piety and views of marriage are traditional values while gender roles and paternalism are not traditional values. As a result from the examination of all respondents, 33.9% respondents agree that only filial piety is not traditional and the rest of the values are traditional. Those who think all four factors are not traditional values make up 20.2%, which is the lowest percentage compared to other value types. In the youth group, four cluster types were extracted as in the whole group, but the composition of the two hybrid types was somewhat different. In one hybrid type, filial piety is traditional and the rest is not traditional, and in another type, only filial piety is not traditional and the rest are traditional. It shows that the standard of hybrid value type in the youth group is filial piety. This shows the family values in the youth group are diverse and distinct from the entire society. The study further explains this difference, comparing distributions of clusters according to age, gender, cohort, education level, region, and single-child status.
