Poly(1,4-cycrohexane dimethylene carbonate)glycol (PCHC) has quite rigid structure compared with poly(1,6-hexamethylene carbonate) glycol, and is an amorphous state. The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of PCHC on the mechanical properties of PUs. Polyurethanes were synthesized from a mixture of PCHC with copolymerized polycarbonate glycol(C4/C6=50/50) and 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate. With an increasing PCHC content, Youngs modulus and tensile strength increased. Above 30% of PCHC content, stress-strain curves for the PUs showed typical curves for elastomers. These results imply that the PCHC act as a hard segment component, while the copolymerized carbonate does as a soft segment one.
