An A-site layered perovskite GdBa(Fe0.5Mn0.5)2O5 was synthesized and the crystal structure was analyzed. The oxygen vacancies were located in the Gd layers and the valence states of the B-site cations with pyramidal oxygen coordination were Fe3+ and Mn2+. Low-temperature topotactic reaction made the compound a fully oxygenated perovskite GdBa(Fe0.5Mn0.5)2O6 with keeping the cation arrangements. By the oxidation only the valence of Mn increased from 2+ to 4+, while that of Fe remains at 3+.
