We report clinical trials for 2-octylcyanoacrylate to assess its effect on skin closure in patients who undergo tympanoplasty with postauricular incision. We used technique to minimize postoperative care of surgical wounds and to improve the quality of life of patients during their hospital course. The advantages of using 2-OCA are as follows : (1) Dressing change, disinfection, and suture removal are not required, relieving patients of discomfort associated with postoperative care and lightening the surgeon's ward workload. Hospital stays may also be considerably shortened. (2) Patients can wash their hair on the first postoperative day because no blood or disinfectant gets in their hair.Disadvantages are follows : (1) The risk of hematoma is higher in the incision site treated with 2-OCA than that closed with sutures because wound drainage is inadequate because the wound is closed. (2) 2-OCA is comparatively expensive.
