[Subjects and Methods] Subjects were 136 young healthy participants (136 eyes) who had no ocular diseases except refractive errors. The subjects were divided to 3 groups: 46 subjects (46 eyes) using conventional hydrogel CLs (the hydrogel group), 29 subjects (29 eyes) using silicone CLs (the silicone group), and 61 subjects (61 eyes) without any experience of CL use as the control group. Using a specular microscope (SP 3000P, TOPCON), the corneal endothelial cells were photographed and the cell density (CD), coefficient of variation (CV), average corneal endothelial cell area (AVG), percentage of hexagonal cells (6A), and corneal thickness were assessed and compared among the 3 groups. Prior to measurement, the hydrogel and silicon groups completed a questionnaire regarding their history of soft contact lens (SCL) use, average daily and weekly wearing time, and SCL power. Mann-Whitney U test and Steel-Dwass test were used for statistical analysis.
