The purpose of this study was to investigate Dae Chondok, a founder of the Jesus Abbey (Yesoo-won), and his theological thoughts. The reason we revisited Dae Chondok was that, even before the Korean christianity faced a crisis, there was his prophetic voice blessing the healthy growth of the Korean christianity and it is valid until now. First, his career and the Jesus Abbey were briefly introduced. Dae Chondok contributed by reminding us of the importance of community and the community spirituality. The Korean christianity has been week in community spirituality. The community spirituality is different from Church life. The Jesus Abbey awakened community spirituality in the Korean christianity. Jesus Abbey is a community that achieved ecclesia that exists as the Koinonia of the Holy Spirit, which is a shape of the New Testament church. He hoped the Korean church to be established, beyond ideological debate, on the basis of the Holistic Gospel. He believed that the Holy Spirit movement without social justice and the social justice movement separated from the Holy Spirit were immature theology. He emphasized, therefore, the whole gospel based on the harmony of social justice, especially the land reform movement based on the ideas of Henry George, the social justice movement that puts values on labor, and the Holy Spirit movement. The collaboration between the social gospel and the Holy Spirit movement will lead to the greatest missionary movement in history as well as the biblical institution of justice, which have a huge impact on the world. Dae Chondok believed that the basic justice of the Bible was based on the fundamental economic principle that all production and income require two elements of ‘land’ and ‘labour’ and emphasized the idea of the Jubilee. Some of the idea of the Jubilee was difficult to be realized in modern society, but social movements for community land trust, hebitad, and land value tax were feasible in Korean christianity. For the current situation in Korea where the real estate problem is spreading as a social crisis, Dae Chondok's teachings are still valid. And he emphasized the importance of labor. In addition, in a situation where the theology of inculturation in Korean christianity has hardly progressed other than theoretical discourse, Dae Chondok attempted to inculturize liturgy, robes, and praise in Jesus Abbey. He also compared the Jewish subdivisions of the seasons with the lunar calendar, referring to the Christian subdivisions that were indigenous to the Korean christianity. Dae Chondok‘s Jesus Abbey is a community that should be modeled in efforts to restore Korean christianity fallen into cheap grace. The author studied Dae Chondok of Jesus Abbey under the judgement that it is a desirable, in order to overcome the crisis of Korean christianity, to find an alternative from the person who gave a prophetic voice to the Korean christianity and his ideas, rather than from the outside.
