In this study, the author focused on the homiletics by John Stott and Thomas G. Long and specially investigated preachers and the preachers' character. In the COVID-19 pandemic, the crisis of the Korean church has grown aggravated. In the present day, trust in ministers or preachers at church has been severely defamed. Homiletics discuss about preachers. In addition, preachers have to examine themselves daily. John Stott described a preacher as a steward, herald, witness, and father. Moreover, he stated that a preacher can share great sermons if he or she is 'captivated by the truth' instead of some preaching methodology. Likewise, preachers must be thirsty for the truth daily to preach with excellence. The first virtue of a preacher is someone who is seized with the truth. Next, it is a 'preacher with good character.' If anyone is not equipped with either the 'truth or good character,' that person cannot become a preacher. The preacher delivers the truth through how they convey the sermon. Thomas G. Long also claims that the image of a preacher must include a herald, minister/ storyteller/poet. A preacher must be a herald. It means that preachers have to deliver God's voice, not their voice. Thomas G. Long stated that sermons are about God's voice, not about the preacher. He asserted that the first stage of a biblical sermon is by listening to the word of the truth in the scripture as it represents God's voice. Once the preacher discovers God's will in the scripture and hears God's voice, then he or she returns to the congregation and shares the truth with them. The preacher longs to hear the voice of the living God, lives in line with Coram Deo as an upright minister. A sermon is the truth portrayed through personal character, and the message of the preacher is conveyed by his or her character. Lastly, Thomas G. Long claimed that a preacher must base on three important frames of understanding. First, it is a critical view of the scripture. He stated that biblical interpretation involves a conversation with the most critical study and it must happen through prayer and spiritual anticipation. Second, it is abundant theological inheritance. Third, it must be accompanied by the preacher's deep understanding of the situations of the congregation. The preacher must keep in mind the message that the congregation needs during the sermon and the points from the gospel that must be emphasized for the congregation to overcome their pain and confusion in life. The author believes that the Korean church will surely overcome the present crisis if the preachers of the churches recover as listed above.
