The purpose of this study is to elucidate the characteristics to the elderly residents in 35 households in deteriorated residential area. Through the interviews and field surveys, floor plans including arrangement of electronic appliances and furniture was made. According to the composition of the public space inside the residential space, the types of houses were classified. This distinction includes characteristics such as the number of residents and the size of the residence. The next step is to analyze the relationship between the arrangement of furniture and household appliances in the elderly living space and the utilization behavior of the elderly. The results of this study are as follows: First, characteristics of furniture arrangement and usage of home appliances are derived according to the type of living space of the elderly. Second, these results suggest improvement of the problems that may arise from the residence behavior of old people.
