This study verified the influence of consumer benefit and cost on the perceived value and intention of using an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform based on a value-based adoption model, and compared the differences among consumer dispute response types to increase the satisfaction of consumers and retailers. An online survey was conducted on 1,121 adults aged 20-59 who had applied for consultation, damage relief, or dispute settlements with retailers or public institution in the previous year. The major findings of this study are as follows. Convenience, promptness, and international applicability, which are the consumer benefits offered by the ODR platform, had a significantly positive effect on the perceived value and intention of use. System errors, which constitute the consumer cost on the ODR platform, negatively affected, but the lack of a binding force of the ODR platform had a positive effect on the perceived value and intention to use, contrary to our assumptions. Next, a comparison of the differences by the types of consumer dispute response showed that Type 1, considering the dispute size and the consumer benefit of the ODR platform, had a positive effect on the perceived value and intention to use in the order of promptness, convenience, and the lack of a binding force, and the system errors had a negative effect. Type 2, which considers the dispute size and consumer cost of the ODR platform, showed a positive effect in terms of the perceived value and intention of use in the order of convenience and international applicability. Type 3 considering the dispute size and both consumer benefit and cost of the ODR platform had positive influence in order of convenience and the lack of a binding force on the ODR platform. None of the indicators had a significant effect on the perceived value and intention of use of Type 4 which does not consider the dispute size and either consumer benefit or cost of the ODR platform. Based of these findings, this study provides measures to increase consumer acceptance of an ODR platform.
