In the history of human civilization, ‘traditional intellectuals’ played a key role in the education, diffusion, and inheritance of knowledge. However, with the advent of the 4th industrial revolution era, the network era by the digital revolution has begun. The network society based on the Internet completely changed the concept of a universal knowledge system, and a new knowledge subject appeared accordingly. The era of ‘network intellectuals’ has begun. The starting point of this thesis begins with the question, “How will knowledge be delivered to network intellectuals?” by Christian teachers in the era of the 4th industrial revolution. As an alternative to this question, the researcher suggests that what a Christian teacher needs in the field of church education is not a ‘knowledge bearer’ but a ‘knowledge sympathizer’. The purpose of Christian education is religious education. Therefore, this paper suggests that the empathy needed for Christian teachers is based on God’s pathos. The purpose of this thesis is to provide an integrated view of Christian teachers who do not separate religious education and life in the digital network age of the 4th industrial revolution era. What a Christian teacher needs is to form empathy in an equal and equitable relationship with network intellectuals, and to share the empathy of Christian education that can be applied not only in the real world but also in the virtual world.
