A novel ultra-wide band(UWB) filter based on defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed in this paper. This proposed filter based on DGS is transformed from traditional filter and it is designed with a 0.508mm dielectric substrate thick with dielectric constant 2.2. It has a small size and exhibits good performance. Moreover, this filter has good quality in passband(from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz), high restraint external band(more than 10dB from 11.5GHz to 14.8GHz). The new filter is successfully designed and fabricated and the measured results are in a good agreement with those obtained by numerical investigation.
