The characteristics of the stator inter-turn short circuit fault of induction motor under light load conditions are inconspicuous, which may cause difficulty in fault diagnosis. To address this, a fault diagnosis method based on multiple signal decomposition and reconstruction is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, the DC link current signal is selected to obtain obvious the characteristics of the stator inter-turn short circuit fault. In the event of the stator inter-turn short circuit fault, the fault characteristic frequency of the DC side current is derived. Then, the fault characteristic frequency extraction is realized based on multiple signal decomposition and reconstruction, such as Hilbert transform, the empirical mode decomposition (EMD), the signal reconstruction, the variational mode decomposition (VMD). With this, the fault diagnosis for the stator inter-turn short circuit fault of induction motor is achieved. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by simulations and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
