Modular multilevel DC converter (M2DC) is now emerging class of DC-DC converter for medium voltage dc application. M2DC is non-isolated topology of modular multilevel converter (MMC) for DC-DC conversion. M2DC which is a single stage conversion for dc grid interconnection with bidirectional operation is discussed here. The main challenge is to maintain capacitor nominal voltage value. This paper presents M2DC using square wave PWM to achieve energy balancing of capacitor. Square wave PWM has high dc utilization ratio of 1 as compare to sinusoidal PWM which is equal to 0.866. The present model of converter is simulated in MATLAB SIMULUINK.
