Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) suffer from low output level and high harmonic distortion in medium-/low-voltage applications such as DC distribution networks. In order to address the above issues, a modulation method for improving output characteristics is proposed in this paper, which the output level number is multiplied for medium-/low-voltage MMCs by introducing a step wave correction. MATLAB/Simulink simulation results are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the presented method.
