The application of the traditional magnetic materials in absorbing always have shortcomings of big quality and low efficiency at low frequency. On this regard, a new microwave absorber is proposed by combining the magnetic materials with the phase gradient metasurface. As an example, a composite absorber is designed by a composition of the magnetic material ECCOSORB SFU-5.5 and a phase gradient metasurface designed using dielectric mediums with different constitutive parameters. The simulated results indicate that the absorption efficient are greatly increased and the bandwidth is highly expanded compare with the magnetic material with the same thickness. Consequently, the weight of the absorbing material is reducing. It is hoped to has a broad application prospect in the field of stealth.
