A novel Frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar detection method based on harmonic characteristic analysis using 1-bit time modulated array (TMA) is proposed. The signal model and no frequency aliasing condition are derived. The estimation methods for range, velocity and direction are proposed. Compared to switched antenna arrays (SAA) with one element excited at the same time, 1-bit TMA with all elements excited simultaneously can improve echo efficiency. By designing the harmonic directional pattern of the 1-bit TMA to meet the amplitude comparison method direction finding conditions, direction finding results are unrelated to the phase of echo signal, thus solving the velocity direction coupling problem. Simulations are provided to verify the effectiveness of the method.
