Diversified Technologies, Inc. (DTI) built, and tested, an air-cooled galvanically-isolated, high power density Integrated Power Node Center (IPNC) for power distribution. The output seamlessly transfers among inputs or outputs. The high power density of > 1 MW/m 3 is achieved by using high frequency switched mode power supplies (SMPS). DTI developed a full-scale prototype of a compact, modular, galvanically isolated, power distribution IPNC to supply mission-critical equipment with high-quality, uninterruptible power for Navy ships. The power interfaces are input voltage of 440 VAC and output voltages of 650 VDC and 440 VAC at 60 Hz and 400 Hz 3-phase capable of supporting aggregate loads of up to 200 kW. The technology utilizes air-cooled high-power density techniques including Si and SiC semiconductor switches and a multi-filar high frequency transformer. The inherent modularity of the system provides flexible integration in a wide range of shipboard applications.
