This work presents the design and experimental validation of a prototype PVDF-based ultrasound piezoelectric sensor dedicated to ionoacoustic imaging of dose deposition in hadron therapy. The sensor sensitivity, frequency response and directivity have been designed through both analytical and finite-elements-model simulations. A three 3 × 30mm channel prototype sensor with 1 MHz bandwidth has been manufactured and characterized through electrical and acoustic testbenches.
