Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is one of the most promising techniques for 6G communication. Till now, a lot of field tests on RIS prototypes have been done, which shows the potential capability of RIS for future wireless network. In order to promote the development of RIS, we provide a comprehensive analysis on the potential air-interface impact considering practical deployment of RIS from the standardization evolution perspective. Furthermore, we analyze the potential deployment strategies for RIS from different aspects, taking into account the standardization progress, size of RIS and height of RIS deployment. In the end, considerations on engineering issues for RIS are provided from operator’s point of views.
