A design of a compact WRD180C24 double-ridge waveguide directional coupler with unsymmetrical cross holes coupling is proposed in this paper. The size of the coupler is effectively reduced by using coaxial resistors instead of absorbers which are generally made of ferrite materials and at certain length to maintain good ability to absorb electromagnetic waves. Compared with cross hole and circular hole coupling it is found that the unsymmetrical cross hole coupling is better in coupling flatness and directivity. The coupling loss of the designed double-ridge waveguide with a length of only 100mm is between 38.5dB and 40dB, and the directivity is greater than 14dB.
