In the conventional doubly salient electromagnetic generation (DSEG) system, the output is rectified by a diode rectifier. Active rectifiers with angular position control (APC) can significantly improve the output capacity and efficiency of the DSEG system. Although the possibility of fault is higher, active rectifiers extend the scope of fault-tolerant control. Active rectifier faults can lead to the reduction in the output capacity and efficiency. The characteristics of the DSEG system are analyzed during normal operation and after the occurrence of three types of open-circuit faults in the single-phase lower bridge arm of the active rectifier. A fault-tolerant control strategy is proposed for open-circuit faults. The results show that the fault-tolerant control strategy can restore the output capacity and efficiency of the DSEG system to some extent.
