In this paper, we introduce a UAV-borne small and light W-band multi-function imaging radar system. The working frequency of the radar is 94GHz. In the design of the system, DDS and frequency synthesis are used to generate the W-band linear frequency modulated continuous wave signal with 2GHz-bandwidth and drive the W-band high-power solid-state transmitter. The LO signal is divided into two channels and sent to two receivers. The reception adopts the declination reception method to reduce the data rate. We use several key technologies to reduce weight to meet the mounting requirements of small UAVs. In addition to realize video imaging, W-band radar’s high scattering characteristics on grounds create conditions for the formation of shadows for moving targets. This paper reports the video imaging results of W-band SAR and analyzes the shadows of moving targets.
