Long time walking with heavy load can cause irre-versible muscle damage. The research shows that spring damping systems can effectively change the phase difference between the suspended backpack and the wearer. In this paper, the mechanism of phase difference change is analysed and a method for selecting appropriate spring damping coefficient is proposed. Based on the requirement of stiffness transformation, a variable stiffness load reduction suspended backpack that can adaptively change for the size of load weight is designed. And the load reduction test was carried out using this backpack prototype to verify the correctness of the load reduction theory.
