In order to improve the technical level and effect of substation intelligent maintenance, a new fault diagnosis technology based on acoustic imaging is studied and put into application in this paper. The noise characteristics of typical switch cabinet are analyzed. The delay-and-sum beamforming principle is introduced. A 64-channel planar spiral acoustic array is designed and optimized. The sound source localization device is developed and its reliability and stability is verified by laboratory test. Further, the technology is used for on-site fault diagnosis of a switch cabinet. A design defect is successfully observed. It will be provided as a new condition monitoring technology for intelligent maintenance of power apparatus.
