The authors propose the isolated AC/DC converter using modular matrix converter as a quick charger. This converter has a high-frequency transformer instead of a commercial-frequency transformer. The volume and wight of this system become much smaller than a system using the commercial-frequency transformer. Because this converter can directly charge the battery from the input medium voltage such as 6.6 kV, a pole transformer is not required and the total system including the distribution system can be downsized. The soft-switching technique is applied to the secondary converter switching and the switching loss can be reduced. The operation principle and control method of the isolated AC/DC converter are explained. The effectiveness of the proposed circuit was verified by simulations.
