The paper presents selected results of research into the possibility of using advanced instrumental methods for solving diagnostics of internal combustion engines used in military technology. The authors present selected information for evaluating the technical condition of Perkins Condor V12-1000 engines using worn lubricating oil. The authors briefly present the methodology of the solution, the possibilities of setting summary criteria including good (operational) condition, further deteriorated condition and condition indicating a real risk of failure, and the original evaluation model and lubricant degradation forecast together with the results of practical experiments. The mathematical model is primarily based on a balance equation describing the formation and disappearance of wear particles and fragments. The model also respects the physico-chemical changes of the lubricating medium during operation. Modern tribotechnical methods were used to solve the problem.
