The European Green Deal asks for carbon neutrality in 2050, while a 50-55% renewables target in 2030 is a needed interim milestone. Photovoltaic are promising technologies which allow distributed deployment of RES, but the excessive use of land is a concern. In this context, the paper makes a preliminary analysis of land use potential for PV production in synergy with agriculture, by promoting agrophotovoltaics in a holistic view and having as use-case Romania. The analysis goes beyond the potential of such production and considers also as an opportunity the PV developments around irrigation channels, in synergy with electrified agricultural machinery and potentially with green hydrogen production, to promote finally sustainable activities.
