In recent time Distributed denial-of-service(DDoS) attacks have been growing very rapidly, putting a huge threat to availability and integrity in online services. This survey paper gives a comprehensive overview of DDoS attacks and several recommendations to mitigate the attack. Various researches in this field are represented in tabular format along with limitations. which is helpful for upcoming researchers to carry out work in this field. To provide recommendations for individuals and organizations to mitigate security risks during the pandemic. A variety of techniques are available to detect and mitigate the DDoS attacks, but still there is requirement of approaches which can deal with the attack in full proof. The rapid rise of DDoS is an alarming situation. This survey paper offers shows the valuable researches done in this area along with their strength and limitaions. A proper examination of limitation in existing work is done to develop new models to mitigate DDoS attacks.
