In this paper, we investigate and characterize the intra-wagon propagation channel at the millimeter-wave frequency band using Fujikura prototype communications equipment. The measurement testbench presented in this paper is based on the 802.11ad standard, which establishes a 60 GHz wireless communication network to evaluate the propagation channel. A link-level simulator to compare simulation results with those obtained in field measurements using the Fujikura communications equipment has been implemented. The proposed simulator is based on the Wireless InSite commercial software, which uses a ray tracing technique based on three-dimensional shooting and bouncing rays. Furthermore, the simulator takes the material electromagnetic parameters and a diffuse directive scattering model into account. Then, the link-level simulator is employed to conduct extensive simulations taking the real intrawagon measurement locations into consideration. Experimental and simulation results show that there is a good correlation between them. The results obtained provide valuable information for the system-level evaluation of intra-wagon 60 GHz commercial communications networks.
