Metamaterials are artificially designed structures with unordinary electromagnetic properties. In this paper, a compact microstrip low-pass-filter (LPF) with sharper cut-off and improved band qualities is proposed using complementary split ring resonator (CSRR). The LPF filter utilizing this new structure is very simple and the insertion loss is very less. Additionally, the stop band is less than −10dB. The pass band region is at an average of −12.35dB, while rejection band for the low pass filter starts at 2GHz as characterized by S_21 data. The filter is intended to have a cut-off frequency of 1.69 GHz. Customarily, Butterworth and Chebyshev LPFs within these pass-band display high reflection and attaining shaper cut-off is quite cumbersome due to its non-direct stage characteristics, thereby creating cross talk between microwave systems. Therefore, the proposed LPF exhibiting of straight stage and keener cut-off can be a better subsystem for microwave frameworks.
