High efficient, compact and powerful solid-state 2-μm laser sources have a variety of applications in surgery, material processing, LIDARs, gas detection, and pumping of mid-IR optical parametric oscillators [1]. Recently, both CW and pulsed (Q-switched or mode-locked) oscillations were demonstrated at 2064 nm in the Tm 3 +-doped polycrystalline Lu 2 O 3 ceramics with the 800 nm diode or Ti:Sapphire-laser pump [2,3], and the 1.2-μm semiconductor disclaser pumping [4]. Highly efficient Tm:Lu 2 O 3 ceramics amplifiers at 1940 nm pumped by a RSEFL at 1678 nm were demonstrated [5].
