Allocation of distribution generation units in radial distribution topology has proven its supremacy in turning down active and real power losses. In this paper a robust and proficient methodology is used named as “Imperialist Competitive Algorithm” to identify the finest location of distributed generation units and its size, while considering minimization of reactive power loss as the prime objective for the problem formulated. The evolutionary based optimization technique is enthused from the Imperialistic antagonism. It begins while initializing initial population. The concept of ICA is conceptualized in solving allocation problem of DG units in radial distribution topology. Optimal location of DG units spurts up the efficiency, voltage profile of the system and reduces the emission pollutants also. The method is tested on standard IEEE 69 test bus system, while taking into account effect of one, two and three DG units individually in both test system. The result obtained by aforesaid method proved to better from other techniques proposed.
