Wireless LANs (WLAN) are today one of the most emerging wireless technologies at access layer. They are being increasingly deployed by the corporate and academic sector organizations. The wide deployment and use of WLANs has made it imperative for service providers to provide secure access to network for valid users and able to suitably detect, identify and terminate the access for invalid users. While most of the wired network cabling is located inside buildings, already secured from the use of un-authorized physical access through the use of keys, badge access and so forth. In contrast, wireless APs may be accessed from the premises or even slightly away from premises where they are deployed, if the signal is detectable (for instance, from parking lots or nearby buildings). Thus wireless networks require a very secure access to APs and the ability to isolate and terminate any potential threat to the network. To achieve the same, a system, named as INDICT (Intruder Detection, Identification, Containment and Termination) is presented, which is built on a novel idea aimed at providing secure wireless access to legitimate users.
