A new type of electric boat named "RAICHO-I" has been created by Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. "RAICHO-I" utilizes a lithium-ion battery with a plug-in system or a quick charging system. "RAICHO-I" is the first electric boat adopted CHAdeMO standard which is the standard of quick charging method for electric vehicles in Japan. A quick charger can bring "RAICHO-I"'s battery up to 80% of full charge within 30 minutes, which is a much shorter time than conventional charging systems. "RAICHO-I" can operate for 35 minutes in full speed service and berth for 30 minutes while recharging in a cyclic operation.
