This work deals with the AC winding losses calculation in electrical machines used in modern automotive traction applications; considering both hybrid and fully electric vehicles. The research is carried out estimating the AC winding losses amount for various configurations, through the use of detailed finite element analysis (FEA) and of a new hybrid analytical-FEA calculation method. A comparison of the obtained results by the two methods is carried out, in order to prove the proposed methodology effectiveness and to evaluate the winding losses impact on the overall design performance.
