Mutual coupling is a significant issue with respect to antenna array performance in a tomographic imaging setting. While approaches have been implemented that account for the structures of neighbouring antennas, little has been done with respect to the impedances presented to the antenna via the associated receiver network. We compare the field perturbations due to the presence of other antennas in an array and demonstrate that these changes are clearly dependent on the antenna terminations. This suggests that accounting for mutual coupling in a tomographic imaging configuration cannot be accomplished purely by numerical modelling techniques but must also synergistically incorporate appropriate hardware choices.
