This paper reports a 12 GHz cascode LNA with extremely low noise figure (NF) for satellite communication (SATCOM) applications. The NF of the proposed LNA is improved by employing optimum transistor sizing, a high-Q gate inductor, and efficient use of an inter-stage matching inductor between the common source (CS) and the common gate (CG) transistor. Overall, the designed LNA achieves a gain of 17.5 dB, NF of 0.8 dB, and input third-order intermodulation coefficient (IIP3) of −12.5 dBm at 12 GHz with only 11.4 mW of DC power.
