A modified frame synchronization algorithm based on average likelihood ratio testing is proposed in this paper through data-aided recognition of the Unique Word (UW) preamble in the transmission flow. To improve the computational efficiency, several approximations are proposed and discussed in the paper, to provide the designer with practical solutions that are still able to outperform other approaches in specific application scenarios. Simulations have been done to verify the performance and improvements. In practice, the optimum algorithm should be chosen according to the results.
