The More Electric Aircraft (MEA) offers potential benefits such as reduced weight and improved efficiency. A dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system has been developed recently in Nottingham for turboprop aircraft taxiing motor-generator applications. With excellent fault tolerance, the machine can run continuously. This paper is focusing on parameter estimation of electrical machines for further improvement of a sensorless control scheme. A new Forgetting Factor Recursive Least Squares (FFRLS) Method has been used and the proposed method eliminate the conventionally-used inverse matrix calculation process. Simulation results demonstrate that the method can efficiently estimate the steady-state and transient machine inductance with a much simpler algorithmic procedure.
