The increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) requires effective primary prevention measures, also among young adults. In focus groups, people aged 18–41 years with an increased risk of T2D were asked about their knowledge and risk awareness regarding T2D as well as preferred sources of information. The own T2D risk is considered low and classified as an age-related disease with a good prognosis. Information on T2D should be linked to the living world of young adults, e.g. to information on nutrition and sports.
