The concept of IoT covers the connection between people and everyday objects through the Internet, such objects can monitor values or make autonomous decisions. The service areas that use IoT are health, agriculture, manufacturing, security and urban infrastructure, among others. In recent years a technology that has allowed the IoT to advance is the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), allowing secure communication between devices. Brazil still lacks studies using WSN for IoT. The objective of this work is to define the role of the IoT engineer, which covers four aspects. The first one being data collection, its treatment and its specifications, the second is the communication of the network, the development of an WSN that meets the requirements of IoT. The third is the interface between the data received and the Internet, this management is performed by IoT Proxy Manager, and finally the forth aspect covers the display of the information on the Internet, using a middleware platform. The work demonstrates the need for an IoT engineer, through results obtained by experimental tests in the field, testing different protocols and defining this scope.
