X-ray field phase differences caused by an object can induce edge enhancement in a radiological image Phase contrast effects have been interpreted using a model based on x-ray Fresnel diffraction The dependence of edge-enhancement on x-ray energy, object characteristics and magnification has been systematically studied and interpreted by calculations using this model It was found a good agreement between numerical simulations and experimental results obtained under magnification conditions with a commercial digital mammography unit The numerical calculations have been extended to the more general situation of a variable total source-to-detector distance In this paper, we present the results of these calculations as well as the results derived from the analysis of the influence of the fiber radius on the edge enhancement.
