High-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) leads a serious threaten to the communication systems with working in the frequency range of VHF or HF. For analyzing the effect of the positions of monopole antenna mounted on a conductive plane to its transient response, the combination of a typical electromagnetic computing method- method of Moment and Fourier transform is used to obtain the transient response. The procedure validation is proved with commercial electromagnetic software and radiation test. With two field distribution configurations of HEMP incident wave, this paper provides the analysis and comparison of transient response for the SC current and load current of monopole antenna port when monopole is mounted on different positions of a conductive plane. The results are meaningful to the antenna placement in practical application scenarios when considering HEMP environment.
