The mammal fossil remains collected on the top of a hill, near the Church of Santa Maria della Neve, in the village of Frattaguida (Parrano, south-western Umbria) were described. The bone remains show a peculiar feature of fossilization due to crystals of calcite that have replaced the bone marrow. Several taxa, such as Canis cf. C.arnensis, Mammuthus sp., Stephanorhinus sp., Equus stenonis, E.stehlini, Axis nestii, Eucladoceros ctenoides vel dicranios and Leptobos sp., were identified. The remains of E.stehlini represent a rare Italian occurrence of this small Villafranchian equid outside Tuscany. The concomitant occurrences of E.stehlini and A.nestii have permit to attribute the mammal assemblage to the Tasso Faunal Unit. This result agrees with previous geomorphological, morphoneotectonic and hydrographic observations on the Pornello-Frattaguida basin, specifying its chronology, and with the palaeogeographic evolution of south-western Umbria.
