Abstract: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, heart failure, and kidney disease are the pandemics of the 21st century. The three conditions often co-exist, and each one worsens the prognosis of the others. The patients with heart failure are four times more likely to have type-2 diabetes mellitus compared to patients without heart failure. The combination of type-2 diabetes mellitus and heart failure with conserved function is rapidly increasing due to the obesity epidemic. This article describes the relationship between the three diseases, their prognosis, and the implications in the treatment.
