Acute heart failure is a major public health issue. Acute heart failure is common, especially among the elderly and is a major cause of hospitalization, including to the intensive care unit (ICU), and of mortality. Based on the Framingham cohort, the incidence of heart failure after 65 years old is approaching the figure of 10 per 10,000 residents and life expectancy after 40 years old in subjects with heart failure is reduced 5-fold compared with the general population [1, 2]. The prevalence of chronic heart failure is 1 to 2 % in the adult population and 6 to 10 % in people over 65 years old and is increasing [3, 4].
