BCN thin films are one of the most attractive materials in recent years based on their high hardness values, and excellent tribological properties. Having such characteristics, BCN thin films are becoming crucial for industrial and strategic applications as protective coatings. BCN thin films are also being used as lubricating coatings for high temperature applications due to good thermal and chemical stabilities. To synthesize BCN thin films several different deposition techniques have been carried out successfully such as chemical vapor deposition-CVD and physical vapor deposition-PVD techniques. In this work, BCN coatings were deposited on 4140 steel substrates by a hybrid closed-field unbalanced magnetron sputtering (CFUBMS) and high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) system using different deposition parameters. We studied the structural, mechanical and tribological behaviours of BCN thin films. To characterize the structural behaviours of the BCN coatings SEM techniques were used. Micro-hardness and scratch tester were used to determine mechanical properties of the BCN thin films. Tribological properties such as friction coefficient of the films were calculated by pin-on-disc tribometer in ambient air. Microstructure of all films has dense and non-columnar structure due to the coatings by hybrid system. The highest hardness value was calculated as 17,6 GPa. The highest coefficient of friction was 0,54 and the lowest coefficient of friction was 0,45. The highest critical load values was determined as 55 N. 70
