The article discusses the mission of diver Chris Flook to rid the reefs of the predatory lionfish in the Bermuda Islands. Flook focuses on the effect of the species on the reefs' marine life. Lionfish can spawn after six or seven months of life and can do so every four days. The species first appeared off the Florida coast in the 1990s but ocean currents may have carried them to the Bahamas, Bermuda or Jamaica by Hurricane Andrew or pet-owners have set them free.
