The article discusses the development of multifunctional fabrics for bio-monitoring applications. Electronics, sensors and optics are now being embedded into fabrics to develop health monitoring textiles. Textile-based sensors are being used to monitor or measure several variables including heart rate, electrocardiography (ECG) and oxygen levels. Some of methods of incorporating sensors into textiles are electrode based embroidery, zipper sensor and electronic circuit on fabric.
